It’s considered one of the deadliest disasters in Canadian history. On December 6, 1917, two vessels collided in Halifax Harbour. One was carrying explosives. The ensuing explosion ripped through the city, literally flattening the north end. Two thousand people were killed and another 9,000 were injured or maimed.
