As It Happens Alice Coachman Davis: First Black Woman to Win a Gold Medal

She broke records and broke down barriers. In 1948, Alice Coachman Davis became the first African-American woman to win an Olympic gold medal, paving the way for other black athletes — both male and female — to follow in her spiked-shoe footsteps.
