The National Canada's Social Safety Net: In Hard Times (Part 2 of 4)

The program examines some new ways of helping people in economically hard times. Canada's social safety net has stretched beyond the expectations of those who originally conceived it. The current economy has created a great need for the aid of unemployment insurance and welfare, but that need outweighs available resources. Peter Mansbridge leads an analysis of the options government may consider in the expected overhaul of social assistance programs. One such option is the New Brunswick Experiment which combines education, training and work experience to get welfare recipients back into the workforce.
