In early October, a fire broke out on board a Canadian submarine, HMCS Chicoutimi. The fire killed one crew member and injured eight others. It also left the submarine adrift in stormy seas 200 kilometres off the coast of Ireland. In this story we look at the crew’s heroic efforts to save the submarine and get it safely back to port. We’ll also look at what might have caused the fire. And we’ll examine the controversial deal to buy Chicoutimi, and three other submarines, from Britain.
