The National Harvesting the City

The National Harvesting the City

Fashioning a new industry out of scraps, cleaning up with dirty diapers and making a meal out of leftovers: this isn't just recycling, it's a whole new way of harvesting the city. We take a look at what your garbage becomes and it's a fascinating journey. Learn about the entrepreneurs and the new industries that are turning our garbage into gold. We go to the Chicago Recyclables Exchange and meet garbage visionary/capitalist Wil Ferretti. We learn how local governments are looking to get the best price for this urban product. It is expected that by 2030, 90% of our garbage will be reused in some way.
