News in Review Hong Kong: The Umbrella Revolution

Tens of thousands of citizens took to the streets of Hong Kong in protest against the Communist government in September 2014. They were angry after Beijing announced it would not allow a democratic selection of candidates for the position of Hong Kong’s chief executive in 2017. With protesters using their umbrellas for protection against police tear gas canisters, their demonstrations became known as The Umbrella Revolution.
