The National Making It Big: Fashion Design for Plus Sizes

One in three Canadians is classified as fat. Those who belong to that group want to be a part of mainstream culture and accepted for their image. According to the Body Mass Index, an average woman of 165 centimeters is overweight if she weighs anything over 68 kilograms and obese if she weighs over 85 kilograms. But all this is changing: clothing stores are introducing sizes over 20 and some designers have dedicated their careers to making clothes for bigger people. Marketing campaigns are broadening their range and targeting this segment of the population.
