World's Toughest Fixes Pipeline Shutdown

North of Fairbanks, in the middle of the tundra, a crew prepares to cut into the Trans Alaska Pipeline (TAPS) while 800 miles of oil continues to course through its arteries. A giant valve is underperforming and the risk of failure – and threat of an oil spill – looms large if the weak link in the chain is not removed. But holding back the force of 11 million gallons of oil is far from simple.
