The Forest of Reading's Red Maple Award, offered for the enjoyment of students ages 12 to 13, in Grades 7 and 8, aims to get readers engaging in conversation around fiction books and encourages them to use critical thinking while reading.

– Sara and the Search for Normal by Wesley King
– A Treason of Thorns by Laura E. Weymouth
– Yara’s Spring by Jamal Saeed and Sharon E. McKay
