In October 2006 diplomatic efforts were stepped up to try to end the crisis in the Darfur region of Sudan. A brutal civil war in the southern part of that country has killed as many as 200,000 people. More than two million others have been forced to flee their homes. This News in Review story will look at the terrible suffering of the people of Darfur. We’ll also examine why the international community has so far been unable to end this humanitarian catastrophe.
